Daniel Yeroshalmi created the Crown Heights Community garden, he spent years and years trying to grow plants in his front yard and found the soil to just be terrible, no amount of chemicals could fix it. and so last year he made the bold move to remove all the soil that was there. it was almost 1000 cubic feet of the densest dirt he's ever held, one bucket weighing upwards of about 80 pounds. for reference, that's well over the size of a construction dumpster, and he did it with nothing but a hand shovel. day in and day out, using any free time he had because he dreamed of growing a beautiful garden. his close friend Mordechai joined him a little after the start of the project and over the course of the next 10 months, they continued to dig and dig, using any free time they had, just for this garden, bucket after bucket, wheelbarrow after bucket. wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow. they began to see the progress bit by bit, and Daniel documented the entire process in the form of photos.
after what felt like years, they finally finished the digging and began to put up a wooden retaining wall to maintain the integrity of the surrounding soil. and after 10 months, they took delivery of over a dozen pallets of high-grade soil. Finally, after 10 months of painful back-breaking labor, and thousands and thousands of dollars they had finally completed the project.
with a beautiful garden (the biggest and nicest kosher garden in crown heights) Daniel decided to make this into a community garden, to better benefit the children of our community, and educate them on the wonders of Hashem
please Donate with all of your heart so this can truly happen, this summer right here in Crown Heights.

2 weeks into the project
construction of the retaining wall
a garden needs a lot more than just dirt. there are many many things we need to buy in order to properly occupy all the space created, for example, several dozen kids joining, would mean several dozen pairs of gloves, 2-3 dozen of mini shovels, several hundred small pots, many different items to ensure proper education, such as a cheap greenhouse ($50-$100) and a hydroponic growing system, we have an entire summer of amazing fun ready, we just need your help
1 of more than a dozen pallets of the soil
the final end to the long project
the Crown Heights Homestead is home to over a dozen different kosher breeds of chickens and several dozen hens.
we sell fresh dozens of eggs every single day.
during the summer we may incorporate this into the community garden, and have a joint project. with both gardening and chicken keeping.
